I’ve been fortunate to teach hundreds of musicians from all over the world —here are some nice things some of them have had to say:
Colin opened my eyes to discover my way of expressing myself throughout my instrument. He taught me how to use notes to help me say what I really want to say, more than isolated scales with no musical context. Also, what I liked the most about working with him is how cool of a person he is. He is always there if you need him, and what’s more important is that he wants you to grow as much as you can as a musician. His excellency as a human being is priceless!

1) He really loves teaching. I don’t think I ever came to a lesson where he wasn’t enthusiastic, motivated, and eager to help me learn. 2) He swiftly diagnosed what I needed to learn immediately and what I could defer, and, importantly, gave me tools to help learn on my own. 3) Maybe I don’t need to say it, but the guy is an absolute monster on the guitar.

Colin is by far the most professional, real, and organized teacher I have ever had. He has a deep passion for helping students that surpasses all other teachers that I’ve met with. Constantly being supportive, but coming from an angle to help really push you to the goal you want to reach, I recommend him to everyone!

Colin was my first ever teacher at Berklee College of Music! And boy did I luck out! Colin is an exceptional player who ALSO is an exceptional teacher! I remember when I first came to Berklee it was really difficult for me to learn the fretboard of the guitar (actually knowing what note a fret was), and all I wanted to do was conquer that. Colin gave me everything under the sun to help! I’m talking packets, patience, and most importantly support. If I ever needed any help I always felt like I could email him (and trust me I did) for advice and tips. All around caring guy and a work horse! He will help you get to where you want to go! Any student reading this wondering if they should take lessons with Colin, I would highly recommend you go do it!

Colin is an amazingly organized and clear professor. He is amazing at de-mystifying approaches to guitar playing. He has very clear exercises, and is very kind and supportive. I really wish I had him for more classes and closer to the beginning of my Berklee instruction. I feel that he can really help you structure your approach to the instrument.

I was fortunate enough to be a student of his over 16 years ago. He taught me so much about guitar and music theory that I still use literally every day. But more than that he is just a cool, funny and influential player who left me with great memories and a better musical education.

Colin is great at breaking down an overall approach to guitar into silos, and honing in on the core of each. He had a way with conveying topics like chords and improvisation that were very rewarding. Often I’d find myself sitting in a lesson with him thinking “Whoa, this is so simple and obvious in hindsight. How didn’t I think of it this way from the start?” That’s a great feeling. He’s always passionate in explaining different angles of improvisation, and the enthusiasm he had while breaking down areas of music theory and technique got me feeling more enthusiastic about those areas myself!

Colin is a master of his craft as well as a dedicated and inspirational educator. His passion for music shines clearly in his classes, and he challenges students to push themselves in pursuit of musical excellence.

I had Colin for 8 semesters of private instruction, styles lab, and the Fusion Guitar Ensemble. Colin is an incredible musician and educator. He will change the way you look at music. He will find your weaknesses and challenge you to improve them. He hands out a lot of very useful packets that you can spend a lifetime working on. I highly recommend his classes.

One of the best private instructors I’ve ever had. He’s a ‘musicians musician,’ he knows the guitar inside and out, and he loves helping people succeed. Highly motivating, TONS of knowledge, and he will always push you to your limits. A+++

Colin is one of the best professors I’ve had at Berklee. He gives out texts that have exercises and explanations to all the questions you might have in respects to the course, and if isn’t explained in the packet, just ask! He will answer everything. He truly cares about one’s success and will give you great tips and advice on how to get better!

In the 1.5 years I took lessons with him, Colin took my playing to another level. He did a great job in teaching technical aspects of guitar, music theory, and feel. He also really loves to teach. Strongly recommend.

Colin is possibly the most organized teacher I’ve ever had. He works with extremely detailed ‘packets’ on different topics which he has devised and compiled himself, so even years after having him, I’m still learning from him. He’s also extremely nice, personable and honest in his manner and feedback.
